Sydney Lights

These pictures are from the full day we had in Sydney & Manly ending with the lights around the harbor and city.

The picture with the flags shows people climbing the bridge. There were tours available but we were not that adventurous.

Opera House-Manly

After touring the outside of the Opera House we got on a ferry towards Manly. Manly was a nice town with more beautiful beaches. While eating our shared fish and chips on the beach, one seagull snatched a chunk of fish right out of my hand. The birds had no fear.

The hike along Manly coastline was pretty. We crawled through an opening in an old wall once used as a quarantine divider. Saw a couple large lizards and several scary spiders (non-poisonous) hanging a few feet from our heads.

Downtown Sydney

We got up early the next morning and headed for downtown. I just loved Sydney, wish we had more time there. Saw several old buildings, a grand cathedral and the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens on our route to the Opera House. Took a ferry to Manly where we hiked along the coast. Got back to Sydney Harbor in time to see the lights turn on around the Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Sat for an hour watching giant fruit bats invade the night sky. Amazing day!

Because I took 2,000 photos on this day alone, I’m giving it more than one post 🙂

First Day: Sydney Beaches

Hi everyone! I haven’t forgotten about you! Sorry this has taken me so long to get organized. It has been an interesting couple of weeks adjusting back to our time zone and going through 6,500 photos!

Todd is making me maps so that you know exactly where we were each day. I think I have plenty of pictures to post for each day or more (about 15 days). I wish I could show them all. My goal is to have our trip concluded no later than Christmas 😉

We started our trip from Seattle after being dropped off by some wonderful friends. We flew to San Francisco where we boarded a Jumbo Jet (747-400) for a 14 hour flight. A couple movies and short snooze later we landed in Sydney at 6:30 a.m. their time. After customs and immigration we bought tickets for the train and headed into downtown. Got off about three blocks from our hotel where we took in the sights for the first time. First impressions were of a very clean, beautiful and friendly city. Left our bags at our hotel and then bought tickets for a bus to Bondi Beach.

It was maybe a 30 min bus ride to the beach. The water was beautiful! We walked the whole beach then took the Coastal Walk for about a mile and a half to other beaches. It started raining on us, which you can see the dark clouds in the pictures, but it was a warm rain. Ate dinner at Hungry Jack’s (a.k.a. Burger King) then went to bed around 7:30 that night.

Pretty Pinks

I wanted to post my pretty peonies and English daisies before our big trip tomorrow. Our flight is a total of 18 hours, 14 of those non-stop to Sydney. I think that is officially the longest I have been on one leg of a flight. It shouldn’t be too bad though, we get to choose from 60 movies, 200 TV channels, games and music. We will try to sleep for a lot of it too. We also get eye masks and socks and a toothbrush, cool huh! I enjoy the simple things in life, sometimes way too much. 🙂 I also can get really anxious before travelling and only find comfort knowing the Lord has control of it all. But I better stop procrastinating and get back to packing!

I’ll try to post a few pictures once there.

I Am Loved

I was completely shocked when Todd came home with a box containing a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L lens the other day.  I was not expecting that at all…or ever. I was thinking about what I was going to do for our Australia trip coming up in three weeks, I figured my cheap 55mm lens would have to do. Thanks again for those of you who pitched in to make it possible (early B-day present). I am loved and I love all of you! Now I just need to build up the hand/arm strength to hold the sucker. 😀

1. The robin picture was cropped quite a bit but I was impressed by how sharp it still looks.

2. & 3.You can see that the sparrow is still pretty sharp after cropping from the picture above it.

4. Just a budding branch of a tree, not cropped.

5 Years

Today is our five year anniversary which also landed on Good Friday. I am so grateful for a loving husband and a loving Savior who died to give us life. Without Christ in our lives Todd and I would have never met!

We spent most of the day doing yard work. I pulled my back earlier this week shoveling mulch, but I was able to help a little. We ripped out tons of Lily of the Valley which had decided to take over our flower beds. We still have lots more all over our yard, so if you want some you can come dig it out before we get to it 🙂

We also had dinner at our favorite Herb Niemann’s steak house, it was delicious as always! You have to try the Cajun Sirloin if you like a little heat.

I’ll have pictures of the yard when we are done, for now you get to see our goofy faces!

Happy Birthday Cherise!

Whew! I just made it in time to post this for Cherise! She is my wonderful sister-in-law and one of the sweetest people I know. Look at her gorgeous smile! She always makes me smile when I am around her, must be contagious. Cherise is so full of life and this year is a little extra special too because she is a new mom.

As always I wish I could be there to celebrate with you. I hope you have a wonderful birthday sis!
