On Sunday we packed up the car then drove to west beach nearby. We discovered tide pools in the large rocks along the water. There were pink sea anemones, large crabs, fish, and cool barnacles sticking out their tongues. After the tide pools we did a little more sea glass hunting then headed to the car for lunch. It had started sprinkling so we ate in the car. Soon we had to leave and Jimmy was especially sad. We had a fun weekend with our friends 🙂
Deception Pass Part 2
We spent the rest of Saturday afternoon along the shoreline. Todd and Peter tossed a frisbee, Jessica and I searched for sea glass, and Jimmy had fun playing with rocks and sticks. After awhile, we headed back to camp for dinner and to relax by the fire. We ate s’mores with peanut butter (can’t go without that now) and played a few games (us girls dominated) before retiring for the night.
Deception Pass
Last weekend we went camping with our friends Peter, Jessica and their son Jimmy. We stayed at beautiful Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island. We had a lot of fun and just a little bit of rain as we packed up on Sunday. Since I always take lots of pictures, here are a few from the first half of the day; crossing the bridge and setting up. I have more for tomorrow and the next day 🙂
Red & Green
I picked 12 cups of strawberries from our backyard this afternoon! I have been forgetting to harvest them until today. You seriously have to grab them as soon as they ripen or the slugs take ginormous bites out of them…argh! I found a few ripe raspberries too, yummy! My potato plants are thriving and my tomatoes are getting big on the vine. I am happy.
I thought I would change things up and post square pictures this time around…yippee! It does mean I cropped quite a bit from each one, is that cheating? 🙂
In the Garden
I have some fun things growing in the garden this year. I created a little patch in the back corner of our yard in which I planted garden beans, radishes and pumpkins. They are sprouting and doing really well (I think because of that heat wave we had). I also have lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes, radishes and beans in pots. I love home grown veggies; you can really taste the difference. My roses were also very happy with the heat we had last week, they all have blooms now.
Rattie Adventures
Cheesecake & Mosey were allowed to spend a few minutes in the great outdoors for the first time this weekend. They sniffed, nibbled and ran their way through my flower beds. As you can see in the picture I only let one out at a time, something I learned quickly. I discovered they are natural escape artists, you give them a hint of freedom and they run for it. Though, they were pretty easy to find again since albinos do not camouflage well 🙂
Memorial Day
Monday we hiked down to Teddy Bear Cove, one of our favorite beaches. The tide was really low which was awesome because the starfish were easy to spot. I loved all the shades of purple ( & orange) the starfish came in, which is why I posted so many.
I never got a picture of a shrimp I tried to save (it had been washed up), but it was pretty big. It would have been good battered and fried if I had not thrown it back 🙂
Sunny Weekend
The weather was amazing this Memorial Day weekend. Those of you who live in the Northwest I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it.
Sunday marked the annual Ski to Sea race in Whatcom County. We got to watch the bikers come down Main Street and pass the “baton” to their fellow teammates who then canoed down the Nooksack for 18 miles. Last year the river was too high so they canceled the canoe leg. It was neat to finally be able to see the boaters. We then grilled out (a term I learned from my midwest friends) and tossed a frisbee around. A couple Canadian friends later stopped by, it was a fun day!
I painted my laundry room too. I was tired of white so now it is a greenish color. The paint color is called Brown Buzz but it is not brown, which is funny. It looks like a different color every time I see it. I don’t have much luck with paint colors either (Julie :)) but I think I like this one.
Memorial Day next up….

Mother’s Day Weekend
Todd’s Mom, Cindy, took the train up from Olympia to stay for a couple nights this past weekend. She arrived Friday evening and left Sunday morning. It was a short visit but special.
On Saturday we drove to Bellingham Bay during low tide. We usually park on Locust street then walk down to the beach from there. We had fun walking on the mud flats, collecting sea glass and playing on a drift wood swing. Afterwards we stopped by Todd’s office to give Cindy a tour. I think she enjoyed the scooters best 🙂
After we dropped Cindy off at the train station we walked along Boulevard Park and had coffee & hot chocolate at Woods. I am trying to get more people shots since I only take pictures of flowers and still objects. Todd was my guinea pig for most of them, he was a good sport.
